Standard FRP Duct

In addition to its well known firesafe semiconductor duct lines, ATS offers ATS-FRPTM (often referred to as “standard” or “regular” FRP). ATS-FRPTM duct is made from vinyl ester or polyester resins. This product is used in a broad spectrum of industries, as shown in the Products Use Chart, page 6. ATS draws on over 25 years experience, and uses automatic and computerized machinery, when producing ATS-FRPTM. ATS-FRPTM is designed using ASTM D 2996 standard for filament wound duct and ASTM D 2563, Level 2, for quality. The new ATS FRP H-CollarTM can be used with ATS-FRPTM. The ATS FRP H-CollarTM dramatically reduces installation time and is faster to use than flanges. This makes ATS-FRPTM the least expensive standard FRP system to choose.

Duct Properties

Corrosion Resistance: This is controlled by the laminate structure and the resins used. Resins are chosen to meet the corrosion resistance specification. Vinyl ester resins are used where corrosion challenges are severe.

Flame and Smoke: With the use of additives, Class 1 fire resistance can be achieved.

Duct Structure

Inner Surface: The inner corrosive resistant surface is 10 to 20 mils thick (or greater if specified) with a 10% glass to 90% resin ratio. Organic veil is used as surfacing reinforcement, unless otherwise specified. Liner is free of cracks or crazing, with a smooth finish.

Interior Liner: The interior liner will be a minimum of 0.100” thick, consisting of an average of 70% corrosion resistant resin and 30% glass mat reinforcement.

Structural shell: The structural body consists of filament winding glass reinforcing saturated with chemically resistant resin suitable for the intended service. The ratio of resin to glass will be an average of 35% to 65%, respectively, for maximum strength and durability.

External Surface: In the event duct will be installed outdoors, ATS recommends using a pigmented gel coat in the color selected by the purchaser. The gel coat will contain inhibitors for UV protection.

Surface Hardness: The laminate will have a Barcol hardness of at least 90% of the resin manufacturer’s minimum specified hardness for cured resin, but in no case less than 30. This applies to both inside and outside surfaces.

Cut Edges: All cut edges will be coated with a layer of resin so that no glass fibers are exposed and all voids are filled.

Standards: ATS-FRPTM is fabricated to ASTM D 2996 Type 1 (Filament wound), Grade 2 (Glass fiber reinforced polyester resin pipe), Class E (Polyester resin liner [reinforced]). ATS-FRPTM meets NBS Standard PS 15-69 for duct construction and ASTM D 2563, Level 2, for quality.

Industries: ATS-FRPTM is suitable for industries where corrosion resistance is required for air and liquid handling. This includes petro-chemical, picture tubes, oil platforms, chemical plants, hospitals, mining, pharmaceutical, laboratories, pulp & paper, power and printed circuits, along with semiconductor, wastewater treatment and general manufacturing plants.
