FRP Pipe

ATS-PIPE™ is fabricated according to customer’s specifications to meet corrosion resistance and pressure or vacuum requirements for transmitting corrosive liquids and/or gasses. ATS uses McClean-Anderson computerized winding equipment to provide high quality pipe to ASTM D 2996 filament winding and ASTM D 2563 quality standards. The ATS Pipe H- CollarTM system is less costly than flanges and allows the installer to dramatically reduce installation times.

Pipe Properties

Corrosion Resistance: This is controlled by the laminate structure and the resins used. Resins are chosen to meet the corrosion resistance specification. Vinyl ester resins are used where corrosion challenges are severe.

Lateral Strength: ATS-PIPETM is wound using a 55 degree winding angle in order to achieve maximum lateral strength to meet pressure and vacuum requirements.

Pipe Structure

Inner Surface: The inner corrosive resistant surface is 10 to 20 mils thick with 10% glass to 90% resin ratio. The type of surfacing reinforcement will be organic veil, unless otherwise specified. The liner is free of cracks and crazing.

Interior Liner: The interior liner is manufactured to be a minimum of 0.100” thick, consisting of an average of 30% glass mat reinforcement and 70% corrosion resistant resin.

Structural shell: The structural body consists of filament winding glass reinforcement saturated with chemically resistant resin suitable for the intended service. The ratio of resin to glass is an average of 35% to 65%, respectively, for maximum strength and durability.

External Surface: In the event duct will be installed outdoors, ATS recommends using a pigmented gel coat (color selected by purchaser). The gel coat will contain inhibitors for UV protection.

  2. ATS Internal Beaded Slip Collar™ with ATS ChemBond™ resin & putty
  3. Flanged connections (including ATS slip collar flanges™)
  4. Traditional glass and resin butt joints

Surface Hardness: The laminate will have a Barcol hardness of at least 90% of the resin manufacturer’s minimum specified hardness for cured resin, but in no case less than 30. This applies to both inside and outside surfaces.

Cut Edges: Cut edges will be coated with a layer of resin so that no glass fibers are exposed and all voids are filled.

Standards: ATS-PIPETM is fabricated to ASTM D 2996 Type 1 (Filament wound), Grade 2

(Glass fiber reinforced polyester resin pipe), Class E (Polyester resin liner [reinforced]), and to standards meeting or exceeding those of NBS Standard PS 15-69 for pipe construction and ASTM D 2563, Level 2, for quality.
